Haven’t got the chance to get to know him as a friend.
But he’s a close friend of Eben.

Often, when there’s poly gathering, they will make calls to him, to tease him, to chat with him.

As we know he will still be @ Australia when we holding our wedding, thus we didn’t invite him.
But sweet him still pass a token to us through another friend.

Then in late July, got to know he had colon cancer.
But think its 3rd stage so…

then in Aug/Sept, he got warded to Mt Alvernia Hospice.
Which when i know, somehow know his condition getting bad. :(

Had a friend’s aunt there years back, coz there’s nth much hospital can do,
except there, hoping she can feel better and… passed away feeling better.

Then, yest when i reached home, Eben dear then tell me, he has passed away. :(

A struggle that last… 4-6mths?
Sad, as he was so young only…
Sad, as he had yet manage to complete his degree.
Sad, as he had many more years to go, to do, to achieve.
Sad, for his parents. :(

Though sound bad, but one thing good is… At least the suffering does not last so long?
Thus less the torture, the heartache, the xin-ku-ness for him?

Eben is attending to his funeral now, but i didn’t tag.
As… guess he will prefer to have personal time with his poly mates ba. :(

But, sad for all his friends ard him. :(

Shannon, you will be missed.
And you will always be a close friend to Eben, Amanda, and the rest that’s for sure.

Rest in peace

Ya, something good and interesting.
Benefit the elderly, if they know hw to use it la. :)

Elderly pedestrians get more time to cross

By Christopher Tan
Senior Correspondent

FOR senior citizens who need a bit more time to cross the road, the Green Man will be more patient.

From next month, elderly folk who hold the new tap-and-ride ez-link transit cards can use them to make crossing the road less hurried.

<a href=’http://ads.asia1.com.sg/click.ng/site=tasiaonemotoring&sec=a1_motoring&pagepos=1&size=300X250′ target=’_blank’><img src=’http://ads.asia1.com.sg/image.ng/site=tasiaonemotoring&sec=a1_motoring&pagepos=1&size=300X250′ height=’250′ border=’0′ width=’300′></a>
Card readers have been installed at five pedestrian crossings here, just above the button that activates the Green Man.

When a senior citizen taps his ez-link concession card - issued to those aged 60 and above - on the reader, the green crossing signal will stay on for another three to five seconds.

Currently, the Green Man stays on for 17 seconds at a four-lane crossing, and 21 seconds for a six-lane crossing.

Known as Green Man Plus by the Land Transport Authority, it is made possible by the new card’s multi-function technologies.

Most commuters have swopped their old ez-link cards for the new ones since the exchange programme started in January.

The remainder have up to Sept 30 to do so.

The first five Green Man Plus crossings will be operational from Thursday next week. They are at:

  • Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8, near Ang Mo Kio MRT station;
  • Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6, near Yio Chu Kang MRT station;
  • Jalan Bukit Merah, near Block 162;
  • Sinaran Drive, near Tan Tock Seng Hospital,
  • The junction of Toa Payoh Central and Toa Payoh Lorong 4.

These first locations were selected because they are near health-care and transport nodes, an LTA spokesman said.

She added that the authority is looking to expand Green Man Plus to more crossings: "We will also explore the feasibility of extending this scheme to the physically disabled, who may also need longer green time."

The Straits Times understands that the LTA may also provide the new tap-and-ride cards to homes of the aged in future.

Told of Green Man Plus, Mr Gerard Ee, chairman of the Council for the Third Age, which promotes active ageing, said: "It’s an excellent idea, and an intelligent use of technology.

"This way, you don’t have to extend the timing of all the crossings all the time and hold up traffic unnecessarily. I certainly hope it works."

There are about 2,000 signalised pedestrian crossings in Singapore.

This news indeed brought smiles to pple sia.. :p

HAPPY, HAPPY at Potong Pasir (TNP, 28 Sep 09, Pg 4, reported by Hedy Khoo)

Yesterday morning, Potong Pasir Avenue 3 might just have been Singapore’s happiest street Three days earlier, a taxi had crashed into a clinic at Block 137 there. Many residents rushed to buy 4-D with variations of the clinic’s unit number and the taxi’s licence plate number. The top prize in Saturday night’s draw was for 6114 a variation of the clinic’s unit number, 01-146. At least 200 residents flooded the Singapore Pools outlet near the clinic yesterday morning to collect their winnings. Employee at the outlet, who declined to be named, said winners had started queuing as early as 8am to claim their cash prizes. By noon, the outlet had run out of cash. ”We told them to come back tomorrow or try other outlets, but nobody was annoyed at all. I have never seen our shop Filled with so many happy faces all at once,” she said.

Read abt this

Ya, when is the justification to be done? :p
Extracted from http://www.straitstimes.com/ST%2BForum/Story/STIStory_429784.html

Ez-Link has yet to justify new charges

I REFER to the official reply by Ez-Link in the Forum Online on Saturday (’Ez-Link addresses concerns over new charges’) which, unfortunately, does not address the concerns that Forum contributors voiced.

I asked about how a service that was previously rendered free of charge for years could suddenly require a convenience fee of 25 cents to cover processing costs. No other merchant that I know of charges for Giro.

In fact, most merchants encourage customers to schedule payments through Giro, and without a DBS/POSB accounts- only limitation.

EZ-Link, in its reply, also mentioned that to encourage cardholders to sign up for the Giro facility, the one-time ’subsidised application fee’ of $1.50 would be waived until Feb 26. Before the non-Cepas-compliant cards were introduced, commuters could apply for Giro through the General Ticketing Machines and enjoy the service instantly, without charge.

A seamless process that used to require only the cardholder’s DBS/POSB Nets card and PIN has been turned into a form-filling exercise with a 21-day turnaround, with processing expenses to be borne by cardholders.

The only observable convenience in this card exchange exercise appears to be for EZ-Link to start charging its cardholders. I now look forward to other Cepas card issuers such as Nets (the FlashPay Card) to announce their top-up mechanisms and hope they will be more competitive than EZ-Link’s offerings. In addition, it may also be an opportunity for me to finally wean myself off the DBS/POSB account that I have long maintained just for ez-link top-ups.

Jas Daily PostAugust 19, 2009 9:09 pm

Back from Mt. Pleasant.

Hmm… different vet, different review wor.
Dr Anthony Goh states Tiger highly impossible do not have effusion (fluid in heart).
But cfm there’s a round object, either turmor or soft tissue ard airway, lungs there.

He mentioned most prob due to this that result in heavy panting.

There’s several options, but not really viable i feel.
As takes some risk, either sedation or surgery?

There’s CT Scan, ultrasound, Biopsy.

Well, most prob, will go back 2weeks to 1 month’s time, see if the growth grows anot.
Then again, even if grow, its not possible for me to let Tiger go under sedation or surgery to remove or to test if the growth is cancerous.

See how it goes ba.

But today he seems better.
And vet mention his heart not muffled, in fact, very clear wor.
So different as compared to last wed and mon. Hmm..

:)

Jas Daily PostAugust 18, 2009 4:54 pm

two things make me happy! :D

one, i collected the post-wedding gifts for my jiemeis!
two, my online friend has twins! :D

one thing make me sad. :(

miss out one of the photos.
But nvm, shall print it and slot inside la. :D

My dearest jiemeis,
Hope you ladies will like what i prepared.
Wahahahaa.. :D

Jas Daily PostAugust 17, 2009 9:14 pm

:(

Well, last thurs took 1/2d, brought him to Namly Clinic as he has trouble breathing, or rather, been panting too hard.

As he was too stressed up, thus not able to take a proper x-ray.
But vet mentioned his heart n lungs looks enlarged.
Thus for the time being, can only take medication with injection of Lasix.

Today, brought him back to the clinic to take a proper X-ray, just to check and ensure how is the current situation.
X-ray result comes out..not too good. :(
Saw some black thingy (like tumours) in his heart.
Also heart enlarged, or rather, could be big heart. Though seems either the lining has inflamed or there fluid in the heart.

To get a better diagnose, will need to do a cardio ECG aka heart ultrasound.

So far, only Mt. Pleasant has this facility though vet says can consider trying ARC.

Had called up ARC, they have too, but the vet-in-charge of the ultrasound on indefinite MC.

So … will ask Namly to fax the referral letter over, and see how.
Meanwhile, will do some checks on Mt Pleasant (Well, somehow, mixed reviews there lor)

My poor darling.
Now though didn’t pant too hard, but when abit agitated, will wheeze as well. :(

Well, if after ultrasound and shows, really there’s fluid build-up, can do a small op (requires light sedation though) to remove the fluid.
Though, the problem will come back again.

Haiz.
He’s coming to 11. Not really old right? :(

At times, i feel, if i not so KS, bring him see vet to check if he has heart murmor (as his mom had and died of heart failure), will he be better without the medication?

Guess, no point looking backward (as there’s nothing we can do since already over), but to look toward the present and future, and see what I can do, what the vets can do to make him feel better.

If doing all the above can make him feel better, i wont mind.
Just worried he will get overly stressed and that wont be good to his condition.

As the above, all takes some risks.. a chance he might … collapse?
:(

Jas Daily PostAugust 14, 2009 4:06 pm

Not today, but tmr. :)

Apparently we are poly-mates, and we blog too!

Food for thought

Haven’t not been saying The Pledge for such a long time,
haven’t been singing The National Anthem for such a long time,
haven’t been singing National Day song for such a long time.

But, the lyrics, still fresh, or rather, embedded into my memory.
I know every single word.
Indeed, every single word, i know them well, Esp the pledge.

We, the citizens of Singapore.
Pledged ourselves, as one united people.
Regardless of race, language or religion.
To build a democratic society,
Based on justice and equality.
So as to achieve happiness, prosperity and progress for our Nation.

During the 4.5hours there, the pledge was recited three times, three was part of a song.
The third time, was recited @ 8.22pm.
Though I tried hard to find, why @ 8.22pm, but somehow, didn’t manage to find.
Guesss its just a timing to concide with the ending of the National Day Parade ba.

However, during this time (Same for the NDP Preview i went on 25th Jul), i feel a sense of pride.
In fact, tears were just brimming, ever ready to flow down my face.

The pride, the gladness, the joy that I am born here, Singapore, my home.
Though there’s nothing i can do to help my country, but I do feel proud to be a Singaporean.

Very.proud.ok? :)

It feels good to be here, Singapore, my home, my country.

  Happy 44th Birthday, Singapore!

Hee..
Though I didn’t manage to be @ the floating platform
(I know i’ve been to the preview, but preview and real thing, they are just different la), Me and Eben Dear family we picnic-ed @ the Padang!

Was surprised to know, not much people parked at where we parked.
Guess the mindset was the carpark there was sacred. Haa.
Shall not mention where, email me if really want to know hor.

Its quite near to Padang, that’s for sure. :)

Organised by Young Ntuc, admitted only through tickets (which the sis managed to get for us from her union), was quite fun indeed!

The atmosphere is there, the hosts really did their best to ensure we follow through, being enthusiastic and all!
Of course, there’s the fun pack for each of us.

We had prepared, potato chips (namely Ruffles Cheese and Sour Cream), triple pork fried rice (adapted from Xiaxue) which Eben liked it! :D

Brought along picnic mat to sit on, but the organiser really sweet indeed, to include mat for us as well.
Good for those who didn’t bring anything along. :)

The weather was quite horrible (We reached there ard 4pm, and as you know, evening sun is the worst. :p )
But slowly, gets better, with strong breeze every now and then. :)

We each has a tambourine too!
Which the original fun pack do not have. Haa..

Ntuc indeed spent alot, just to make sure we enjoyed ourselves as much as those @ the floating platform. :)

We all enjoyed ourselves immersely, only one thing pissed us though.
Logistics.. --"

Imagined we walked up and down, in the small pavement, packed with men, women, kids, prams, because the signage wasn’t clear on where to go.
End up, some of the removed the barriers and we hasten cross over the road (though with the cisco police saying no la, cannot la..) blah blah blah.. -
-"

I guess people do heed the advice of not to drive there but take public transport instead, as the road was quite clear of cars, even on CTE! Hee.. :)

Thenafter we headed to Bishan, wanting to have a hot simmering bowl of Kuey Chap.
But… its not opened can?

Disappointed la.
End up have some not-so-nice hokkien mee and red ruby dessert.

Now bathed nice nice, seated @ home, blogging all out.
Okay, photos to be up…. soon k? :p

Will have quite a few posts coming up with photos (genting la, NDP celebration la etc… )
